  • Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology is a government-funded research institute established to develop source technologies and spread performance in chemical and related convergence technologies, and strengthening the competitiveness of the chemical industry through public infrastructure services.
  • The Korea Chemical Institute was established on September 2, 1976, following the Cabinet's vote on a plan to establish the Korea Chemical Institute. In 1980, the department in charge was changed from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy to the Ministry of Science and Technology. In 1999, it was changed to the Ministry of Prime Minister's Office. The name was changed to the Korea Chemical Research Institute on January 1, 2001, and the department in charge was changed to the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2004, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in 2008 and the Ministry of Science, and ICT and Future Planning in 2013.
  • It is focusing on developing source technologies in the chemical and related convergence sectors to strengthen the competitiveness of the chemical industry and creating new growth industries for the country. The research institute's vision has been set up as a research institute specializing in chemicals that realize a sustainable society, and key research areas include development of technologies for eco-friendly chemical processes, development of source technologies for high value-added green chemical materials, development of new materials pipelines and infrastructure technologies, development of technology for practical use of precision chemical and biomass-based materials, securing specialized technologies for chemical infrastructure and supporting comprehensive solutions.
